WIJK-BIJ-DUURSTEDE GENERAL CEMETERY

Location Information

Wijk-bij-Duurstede is 27 kilometres south-east of Utrecht, and 45 kilometres east of Arnhem. This cemetery is about 100 metres from the centre of the village, on the road to Houten. In its north-eastern part are the graves of 4 British soldiers, and in the south-eastern part are the graves of 3 British soldiers. Three of the seven are not identified.

6149774 Staff Sergeant Ronald Richard Ditch, 1st Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, A.A.C., died 26th September 1944, aged 30. 
Son of Percy Arthur and May Isabella Ditch; husband of Ivy May Ditch, of Newhaven, Sussex. His headstone bears the inscription "In Everloving Memory Of A Dearly Beloved Husband And Daddy, Rest In Peace"

14342153 Private Harold Godwin, 11th Bn. 
The Parachute Regiment, A.A.C., died 25th September 1944, aged 21. Son of Samuel John and Mary Godwin, of Stoke-on-Trent. His headstone bears the inscription "For King And Country He Did His Best, In The Arms Of Jesus A British Soldier Rests"

5989587 Sergeant John Walters, 2nd Wing, 
The Glider Pilot Regiment, A.A.C., died 25th September 1944, aged 27. Son of Millicent Dowse, of Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. His headstone bears the inscription "God Shall Give His Angels Charge Over Thee" One We Loved And Will Never Forget"

4918716 Private Gordon John Goodwin Wright, 3rd Bn. 
The Parachute Regiment, A.A.C., died 26th September 1944, aged 25. Son of George G. and Edith Wright, of Stone, Staffordshire. His headstone bears the inscription "Your Memory Is A Keepsake. God Has You In His Keeping, We Have You In Our Hearts"
