Pilot Officer Luis Perez-Gomez was the only Mexican national to serve and die in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Perez-Gomez was one of four Spitfire Mk.-IXBs, Blue Section of 443 "Hornet" Squadron RCAF, which were lost after an aerial battle against several German Fw-190 fighters near the French town of Sassy, Calvados, south of Caen. Only one pilot, Flight Lieutenant Donald M. Walz survived.
