LES CORVÉES-LES-YYS CHURCHYARD

Location Information

The village of Les Corvées and the hamlet of Les Yys, together forming the commune of Les-Corvées-les-Yys, lies 28 kilometres west-south-west of Chartres. There is a church at both places and the British graves are in Le Yys Churchyard, 1.1 miles (2 kilometres) east of the village, immediately south-east of the entrance.


Burial Details


564067 Sergeant Ernest Frank Wilton Curtis, Observer in 142 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 13th June 1940.

551137 Sergeant George Hammond, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in 142 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 13th June 1940, aged 20. Son of Margaret Ellen Kettlewell, and stepson of Horace Josiah Johnson, of Honley, Yorkshire.
INSCRIPTION. AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

40127 Flight Lieutenant Arthur Douglas Joseph Martin, Pilot in 142 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 13th JUne 1940, aged 23. Son of Arthur Dolby Martin and of Irene Martin (nee Holland); husband of Veronica Lucia Martin (nee Thackeray), of Edgbaston, Birmingham. INSCRIPTION. I KNOW THAT IT IS WELL WITH YOU, AMONG THE VERY BRAVE, THE VERY TRUE.
