Location Information


The village of Haaltert is located south of the town of Aalst off the N45. From the motorway E40/A10, which runs between Oostende and Brussels, turn off at junction 19 onto the N45, direction Ninove. Take the first turning right, the Geraardsbergsesteenweg, towards Haaltert. Enter the village and take the first turning left into Houtmarkt and the cemetery is along here on the left. The graves are located to the right of the entrance.


Historical Information

The British Expeditionary Force was involved in the later stages of the defence of Belgium following the German invasion in May 1940, and suffered many casualties in covering the withdrawal to Dunkirk. 

Haaltert Communal Cemetery contains two Commonwealth burials of the Second World War.



Burial Details

4801899 Private Howard William Dove, 2nd Bn. Lincolnshire Regiment, died 15th May 1940, aged 21. Son of Howard and Ellen Elizebeth Dove, of Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.

5334430 Lance Corporal Jack Taylor, 4th Bn. Royal Berkshire Regiment, died 16th May 1940.
