FERVAQUES ISOLATED GRAVE

Calvados

France

GPS Coordinates: Latitude: 49.04105, Longitude: 0.25209

Location Information

Fervaques is a village and commune 13 kilometres south of Lisieux, on the D64 road.

History Information

The grave of Lt. Clarke, who was killed while leading a patrol on the outskirts of Fervaques, lies in the consecrated ground which surrounds a private vault, behind the church. As both the family of the officer and the inhabitants of Fervaques were emphatic in their desire for Lt. Clarke's body to remain in the village, and as the Mayor and Cure of Fervaques and the Bardel-Dubois family were agreeable, it was decided that it should remain there. The grave is marked by a private memorial.
