Location Information

Cognac is a town on the river Charente about 117 kilometres north of Bordeaux and 42 kilometres west of Angouleme. The communal cemetery is on the western side of the town in the locality of Crouin and lies off the main road to Saintes. There are 8 Commonwealth burials of the 1939-1945 war here, to the right of the main entrance.

Burial Details

1626845 Sergeant Geoffrey Arthur Taylor Boyson, Flight Engineer in 189 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 5th January 1945. 
Son of George Thomas Boyson and Marjorie Alice Boyson, of Northampton. His headstone bears the inscription "Sleep On, Dear Loved One Thy Work Was Well Done"

423075 Flight Sergeant Maxwell Browne, Royal Australian Air Force, died 5th January 1945, aged 23. Son of Eric James Browne and Vera Gladys Browne, of Auburn, New South Wales, Australia. His headstone bears the inscription "Our Son And Brother. We Shall Never Forget You, Max"

183812 Flying Officer Jack Ian Coad, Pilot in 189 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 5th January 1945, aged 28. Son of Benjamin and Ada Coad; husband of Rita Dorothy Coad, of Freshwater, Isle of Wight.​ His headstone bears the inscription "Sleep On, Dear One And Have Your Rest When God Took You He Took One Of The Best"

1515917 Sergeant Thomas Rathband Dunne, Air Gunner in 189 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 5th January 1945, aged 23. Son of Ambrose and Margaret Dunne, of Dublin, Republic of Ireland.​ His headstone bears the inscription "Only Son Of Margaret And Ambrose Dunne, 201 Pearse St., Dublin, Eire R. I. P."

1606092Sergeant Joseph Charlton Dunville, Navigator in 189 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 5th January 1945, aged 20. Son of Robert Henry and Christiana Dunville, of Hillingdon, Middlesex. His headstone bears the inscription "To The World, Just One To Us, The World God Bless. Mam, Dad And Dorren"

1320197 Flight Sergeant Harold Bert Hodder, Air Bomber in 189 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 5th January 1945, aged 23. Son of Bert and Nancy Hodder, of Bristol; husband of Margaret Joyce Hodder, of Fishponds, Bristol.

​116968 Flying Officer Norman Adin Lavers, Observer in 23 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 28th November 1942, aged 22. 
Son of Arthur Hamilton Lavers and Lottie Lavers, of Dorking, Surrey. His headstone bears the inscription "Il S'est Sacrifie Pour La Liberté De L'Humanité-Nul Ne Pouvait Faire Plus"

62691 Flight Lieutenant Robert Henry Williamson, Pilot in 23 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 28th November 1942.
