Bessey-la-Cour is a village and commune 19 kilometres north-west of the town of Beaune, and 40 kilometres south-west of Dijon. The churchyard is in the centre of the village, and the grave of one British airman is to the right of the main entrance against the church wall.

1430722 Flight Sergeant John William Wagstaff, Pilot in 93 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 8th September 1944, aged 25. Son of John Henry and Fanny Wagstaffe, of Whittington Moor, Derbyshire. His headstone bears the inscription "In Loving Memory Of Jack, Beloved Son And Brother. Mother, Dad, Edith, Fred And Jim"
