VILLIERS-LE-DUC (ST. PHAL) CHURCHYARD

Location Information

Villiers-le-Duc is a village and commune 60 kilometres north-west of Dijon, and 2 kilometres south of Vanvey. St. Phal churchyard is best approached by the road on the east side of the church at Vanvey. The graves of the airmen are to the left of the main entrance.


Flight Details:

Base: R.A.F. Melbourne, Yorkshire
Unit: 10 Sqdn. Bomber Command
Aircraft: Halifax Mk II, serial DG222
Target, Factories at Turin, Italy
Incident: Aircraft crashed at Villiers-le-Duc following engine failure. There were no survivors.



Burial Details:
 
Sgt. Cyril Frederick BUDGEN, Royal Canadian Air Force, aged 20. Son of Arthur and Esther Budgen of Redhill, Surrey.

Sgt. Raymond William John CROOKS, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, aged 22. Son of William James and Lilian Crooks of Thorpe Bay, Essex.

Flight Sgt. John Leonard DUNLOP, Royal Canadian Air Force, aged 23. Son of Wilbert James and Bella May Dunlop of Perth, Ontario, Canada.

Warrant Officer Class II Alfred Roger JUNEAU, Royal Canadian Air Force, aged 21. Son of Oscar and Ange Aimée Juneau of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Sgt. George KILPATRICK, Royal Air Force, aged 22. Son of Andrew and Jemima Kilpatrick, of Edinburgh.

Flying Officer Clare Arthur McROBERTS, Royal Canadian Air Force, aged 29. Son of Arthur A. and Lilian M. McRoberts of Norwood, Ontario, Canada.

Sgt. Phillip Alexander WARREN, Royal Air Force, aged 24. Son of William Henry and Dorothy Warren; husband of Dorothy Warren of East Grinstead, Sussex.
