VEENENDAAL GENERAL CEMETERY

Location Information

Veenendaal is 40 kilometres east-south-east of Utrecht, and 29 kilometres west of Arnhem. The cemetery is on the north-western side of the village in the road called Munnikenweg. Close to the entrance is the grave of a Canadian airman.

5th October 1944, aged 22.


Son of Arthur Henry and Isabelle M. Wakeman, of Weston, Ontario, Canada.

His headstone bears the inscription "Hush! Blessed Are The Dead In Jesus' Arms Who Rest, For Ever On His Breast"

While engaged in an armed recce operation, the aircraft was hit by flak and crashed. The 22-year-old RCAF pilot, F/O. H.F. Wakeman, did not survive and is buried at Veenendaal, directly next to De Klomp, but in the province of Utrecht Holland.
