THIEUX COMMUNAL CEMETERY
Oise
France

Location Information

Thieux is a village and commune 20 kilometres north-east of Beauvais and 8 kilometres north-west of St. Just-en-Chaussee. The communal cemetery lies on the Thieux-Wavignies road to the east of the village. Inside the main entrance, on the left, are the graves of 5 British airmen.


Flight Details:

Base: R.A.F. Burn, North Yorkshire
Unit: 578 Sqdn. Bomber Command
Aircraft: Halifax Mk III, serial LW675
Target: Amiens, Somme, France
Incident: The aircraft crashed near Thieux (Oise) killing five of the crew. Sgts. J. B. Reid and R. A. Hollocks escaped.



 Burial Details:

1337722 Flight Sergeant Sydney Evan Wallace Cass, Wireless Operator in 578 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 13th June 1944.

1579913 Sergeant Geoffrey Raymond Deeley, Flight Engineer in 578 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 13th June 1944, aged 20. Son of Arthur and Mary Deeley of Uplands, Smethwick, Staffordshire.

175640 Pilot Officer George Caithness Lawrence, Navigator in 578 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 13th June 1944, aged 23. Son of George Caithness Lawrence and Agnes Lawrence of Broughty Ferry, Angus.

173546 Pilot Officer Clifford Newton, Pilot in 578 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 13th June 1944, aged 22, Son of Thomas and Lucy Newton of Sheffield.

177545 Pilot Officer William Renton, Air Bomber in 578 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 13th June 1944.
