Location Information

Schoenenbourg is a village 42 kilometres north of Strasbourg and 10 kilometres south of Wissenbourg, a town and sub-Prefecture of the Department of the Bas Rhin near the German frontier. The village is on the main road (D264) from Strasbourg to Wissenbourg. In the south-western corner of the churchyard are the graves of two soldiers of the army of undivided India who died while prisoners of war.


Burial Details


22919 Rifleman Ghulam Rasul, 1st Bn. 6th Rajputana Rifles, died 3rd November 1943, aged 23. Son of Muhammad Ali and Rakhim Jan, of Chak No. 7 Janubi, Sargodha, Pakistan.

172826 Sepoy Mir Alam, 22 Animal Transport Company, Royal Indian Army Service Corps, died 3rd November 1943, aged 29. Son of Phinu Khan, of Nar, Rawalpindi, Pakistan.
