Location Information

La Haye-de-Routot is a rather inaccessible village and commune lying between Évreux and Elbeuf. It is best reached by train from Rouen to Elbeuf, whence the remaining 15 miles (24 kilometres) are covered by taxi. The churchyard is in the centre of the village. In the south-western corner are graves of two airmen of the Royal Air Force.


Burial Details


549546 Sergeant Leslie Albert Gibbs, No. 6228 Bomb Disposal Flight, Royal Air Force, died 1st September 1944, aged 27.
Husband of Doris Eileen Gibbs, of Huntingdon. His headstone bears the inscription "Deep In Our Hearts A Memory Is Kept Of One We Loved And Will Never Forget"


1169055 Corporal Sidney Dennis Veryard, No. 6228 Bomb Disposal Flight, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 1st September 1944, aged 24. Son of Cecil and Lily Veryard, of Westbury, Wiltshire. His headstone bears the inscription "Always In The Thoughts Of Mum, Dad And Leslie. He Did His Duty"
