Location Information

Dravegny is in the Department of the Aisne, situated 30 kilometres north-east of Château-Thierry. Between the north transept of the church and the northern wall of the churchyard are the graves of seven airmen who died on the 4th May 1944.

Aircraft: Lancaster Mk III, serial LM417
Target: Mailly-le-Camp, France
Incident: Aircraft crashed at Dravegny, Aisne. Seven airmen died but Sgt. H. N. Merrion was taken prisoner and survived the War.



Burial Details

151344 Flying Officer Ian Mackenzie Bremner, Navigator in 101 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 22. Son of John Mackenzie and Mary Ann Mackenzie Bremner of Dundee. His headstone bears the inscription "At The Going Down Of The Sun And In The Morning We Will Remember Them"

1802683 Sergeant James McDonell Davies, Air Gunner in 101 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 21. Son of Trevor P. and Sarah Agnes Davies of Egham, Surrey. His headstone bears the inscription "Eternal Rest Give Unto Him, O Lord; May He Rest In Peace"

174635 Pilot Officer Thomas John Drew, Pilot in 101 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 32. Son of Thomas Charles and Emma Drew; husband of Olive Mary Drew of Sevenoaks, Kent. His headstone bears the inscription "To The Beautiful Memory Of A Beloved Father, Husband, Son And Brother"

1439747 Sergeant Cyril George Dudley, Wireless Operator in 101 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944. 

1832886 Sergeant Stanley John Rodway, Flight Engineer in 101 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 20. Son of Albert John and Mary Rodway of Birmingham.

1366864 Flight Sergeant William Robertson Walker, Wireless Operator in 101 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 23. Son of William and Rebecca Walker of Kirkcaldy, Fife. His headstone bears the inscription "Your Labour Is Not In Vain In The Lord"
 

1807788 Sergeant Frank George Walter, Air Gunner in 101 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 20. Son of Frederick George and Elsie Lilian Walter of Finsbury Park, Middlesex. His headstone bears the inscription "God Be With You Until We Meet Again"
