AUBERVILLE-LA-RENAULT CHURCHYARD

Location Information

Auberville-la-Renault is a village 28 kilometres north-east of Le Havre, 10 kilometres south of Fecamp, and just over I kilometre east of the Fecamp-Goderville-Le Havre road (N.25). 


Historical Information

In the north-east corner of the churchyard is the War Memorial, and 10 yards south-west of this are the graves of 7 airmen. Of these, 2 belonged to the Royal Air Force. and 5 to the Royal Canadian Air Force.


Burial Details

J/89213 Pilot Officer John Chetwynd Durrant, Navigator in 419 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, died 8th August 1944, aged 30. Son of Tom Durrant, and of Kathleen I. Durrant, of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

1175759 Sergeant Basil Jones, Flight Engineer in 419 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 8th August 1944.

1819806 Flight Sergeant William Longmore, Air Gunner in 419 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 8th August 1944, aged 19. Son of Joseph and Mabel Longmore, of Brierley Hill, Staffordshire.

J/29679 Flying Officer Peter William Merrick, Air Bomber in 419 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, died 8th August 1944, aged 20. Son of William Harvey and Helen Elizabeth Merrick, of Strathroy, Ontario, Canada.

R/11904 Warrant Officer Class 1 Joseph Albert Roland Schryer, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in 419 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, died 8th August 1944, aged 24. Son of Jacques and Aurore Schryer, of Hull, Province of Quebec, Canada; nephew of Albertine Latremouille, of Hull. British.

J/18652 Flying Officer Bruce Douglas Walker, A. F. M. Pilot in 419 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, died 8th August 1944, aged 22. Son of Andrew A. and Helen E. Walker, of Kisbey, Saskatchewan, Canada.

J/15458 Flight Lieutenant Murray Gray Wilson, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in 419 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, died 8th August 1944.
