Alblasserdam is 17 kilometres south-east of Rotterdam and 8 kilometres north of Dordrecht, on the main road from Rotterdam to 'S-Hertogenbosch. The cemetery is on the north-eastern side of the road to Oud Alblas. The one British grave is in the north-eastern part, marked by a permanent private memorial.

The Belgian pilot John Noel Charles Marie van Daele Jr. was a volunteer pilot in the Royal Air Force. He is commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission due to joining the R. A. F. though he is a Belgian citizen and has a Belgian headstone.
Van Daele flew as a pilot in the 'Tankbuster' Typhoon MN954 for the No. 609 Squadron R. A. F.
The mission on 28 September 1944 was to bomb ships on the river 'De Lek' in the Netherlands. He was flying at low altitude when he was shot down by a German Flak anti-aircraft gun. He escaped using his parachute but died due to the impact of the fall not far from where his plane crash landed.
