Location Information

Voorburg is a town lying on the south-eastern outskirts of The Hague. The cemetery lies on the north-eastern outskirts of the town, about 1 kilometre north-west of the road to Leiden, and is in a road called Rodelaan.

Historical Information

Voorburg Eastern General Cemetery contains the graves of two Commonwealth airmen of the Second World War. The graves are incorporated in a Dutch memorial, with the names engraved on a large name panel.

Burial Details

580605 Sergeant Francis Checkley, 40 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 10th May 1940, aged 21. Son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Checkley, of Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

590388 Sergeant Alfred John Roberton, 40 Squadron, 
Royal Air Force, died 10th May 1940, aged 26. Son of Alfred William Bert Roberton, and of Ada Florence Roberton, of Southsea, Hampshire; husband of Winifred Clara Kathleen Roberton, of Ruislip Manor, Middlesex. His father also died in service, aged 56 on 29th January 1944  and he is buried in Portsmouth (Milton) Cemetery in England
