Location Information

Vaudry is a village and commune 37 miles (59 kilometres) south-west of Caen, 32 miles (52 kilometres) south of Bayeux, and 2 miles (3 kilometres) east of Vire, which is a sub-prefecture of the department of the Calvados. There is 1 Commonwealth burial of the 1939-1945 war here, in the north-east corner of the churchyard.


Burial Details

5885217 Private Arthur Papworth, 2nd Bn. Lincolnshire Regiment, died 7th August 1944, aged 24. 
Son of Walter and Louisa Papworth, of Mereside, Ramsey, Huntingdonshire; husband of Joyce Papworth. His headstone bears the inscription "His Life, A Beautiful Memory, His Death, A Silent Grief. R. I. P."
