St. Clément-des-Baleines is near the western end of the Île de Ré, an island just off the Bay of Biscay coast near La Rochelle. The island is reached by ferry from La Pallice. the twin port of La Rochelle. In the communal cemetery, which is on the right-hand side of the road to Les Portes, are the graves of 5 British soldiers and 1 British seaman of the 1939-1945 war; only 1 of the soldiers has been identified.
