Location Information

Sauville is a village and commune 24 kilometres south-south-east of Mezieres and nearly 19 kilometres south-west of Sedan. The communal cemetery is in the north-eastern part of the village, on the D.12 road to La Cassine.


History Information

Near the northern boundary hedge, about 17 yards north-west of the crucifix, are the graves of five airmen who belonged to the Royal Air Force.

1375655 Sergeant Sydney Frank Clark, 408 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 28th August 1942, aged 28. Son of John James Clark and Nellie Clark; husband of Jean Olive Clark, of Dartford, Kent. His headstone bears the inscription "Be Thou Faithful Unto Death, And I Will Give Thee A Crown Of Life"

1062058 Sergeant Herbert Gregson, 408 Squadron, 
Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 28th August 1942, aged 22.
Son of Herbert Gregson and Ellen Gregson of Burnley, Lancashire. Husband of Marjorie Gregson (nee Thompson) of Brierfield, Nelson, Lancashire.

580956 Sergeant Norman Basil Herriot, 218 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 14th May 1940, aged 22. Son of Frank and Gertrude Elizabeth Herriot, of Wallasey, Cheshire. His headstone bears the inscription "Dearly Loved Youngest Son Of Frank And Gertrude Herriot Of Wallasey R. I. P."

633727 Aircraftman 1st Class William Robinson, 218 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 14th May 1940, aged 20. Son of William and Jane Ann Robinson, of Carlisle. his headstone bears the inscription "One Of The Many Who Answered The Call, For Those He Loved He Gave His All"

1057672 Sergeant Edward James Stansfield, 408 Squadron, 
Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 28th August 1942, aged 20. Son of Percy and Elizabeth Stansfield, of Kirkham, Lancashire. His headstone bears the inscription "He Did His Best For Those He Loved And Those He Loved Remember"
