Location Information

Reutenbourg is a village 28 kilometres west-north-west of Strasbourg and some 7 kilometres south-south-east of Saverne. The two Commonwealth war graves in this churchyard are near the north-eastern corner of the church.


Burial Details


1359064 Sergeant Francis Charles Butler, Air Gunner in 57 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 24th February 1944, aged 28. Husband of Janet Pearl Butler, of Stoke Newington, London. His headstone bears the inscription "You Gave Us Your Kindest Love So Long As Life Did Last. Wife And Daughter Shirley"

1485692 Flight Sergeant Thomas James Lightfoot, Navigator in 57 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 24th February 1944, aged 26. Son of Maurice Alexander Lightfoot, and of Emily Lightfoot, of Gerlan, Bethesda, Caernarvonshire. His headstone bears the inscription "Sleep On, Beloved, Take Your Rest We Loved You Well But Jesus Loved You Best"
