PONTS-ET-MARAIS COMMUNAL CEMETERY

Location Information

Ponts-et-Marais is a village 32 kilometres north-east of Dieppe. It lies on the right of the road from Eu to Gamaches and is three kilometres from Eu. The Communal Cemetery is on the left of the road from Eu to Gamaches about 180 metres past the road leading to the village when coming from Eu.


Historical Information

Eight British soldiers, four of whom are not identified by name, are buried in graves adjacent to the west wall of the cemetery.


Burial Details

2214957 Sergeant Frederick Brodney Bill, 213 Field Company, Royal Engineers, died 5th June 1940, aged 34. Son of Bernard and Winifred Bill, of Cannock, Staffordshire; husband of Lizzie Mary Bill, of Cannock.​

1869324 Driver George Comer, 213 Field Company, Royal Engineers, died 5th June 1940, aged 29. Son of Ellen V. Comer; husband of Louisa Comer, of Wheatley, Yorkshire.

3312271 Fusilier Michael Joseph Murphy, 6th Bn. Royal Scots Fusiliers, died 6th June 1940, aged 21. Son of Ellen V. Comer; husband of Louisa Comer, of Wheatley, Yorkshire.

3130856 Fusilier Thomas Newton, 6th Bn. Royal Scots Fusiliers, died 6th June 1940, aged 25. Son of Jack and Helen Newton, of Saltcoats, Ayrshire.
