Location Information

Hiesse is a village and commune about 40 miles (53 kilometres) south of Poitiers. The communal cemetery lies on the south side of the village, behind the church, on the path leading to Brechevaux. There are 3 Commonwealth burials of the 1939-1945 war here, to the right of the entrance.


Burial Details


626479 Aircraftman 1st Class George Harris, No. 4 (Continental) Ferry Pilot Pool, Royal Air Force, died 18th June 1940.
Stepson of Mrs. M. Harris, of Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.


78977 Pilot Officer James McCash, No. 4 (Continental) Ferry Pilot Pool, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 18th June 1940, aged 22. Son of David N. McCash and Ruby McCash, of Perth. His headstone bears the inscription "He Died That We Might Live"

636876 Sergeant Ronald Micklethwaite, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in No. 4 (Continental) Ferry Pilot Pool, Royal Air Force, died 18th June 1940, aged 19. Son of Sam and Martha Elizabeth Micklethwaite, of Kirkheaton, Yorkshire. His headstone bears the inscription "At The Going Down Of The Sun And In The Morning We Will Remember Him"
