Location Information

The village of Charroux is about 50 kilometres south of Poitiers. The Communal Cemetery is south of the village, off the road (D4) to Chatain. There are 3 Commonwealth burials of the 1939-1945 war here, to the left of the main path beyond the monument to civil victims.


Burial Details


42343 Pilot Officer Colin Wright Handley, Pilot in No. 4 (Continental) Ferry Pilot Pool, Royal Air Force, died 18th June 1940, aged 20. Son of John George and Annie Elizabeth Handley, of Ingrave, Essex. His headstone bears the inscription "In Proud And Treasured Memory Of A Very Dear Son And Brother"

903042 Sergeant Patrick Denis Humphrey McGovern, Air Gunner in No. 4 (Continental) Ferry Pilot Pool, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 18th June 1940.

936495 Leading Aircraftman James Gilbert Broadbent Thomas, No .4 )Continental) Ferry, Pool, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 18th June 1940, aged 26. Son of Frederick Ogden Thomas and of Emma Thomas (nee Broadbent); husband of Lilian Audrey Thomas, of Norton Tower, Halifax, Yorkshire.
