Location Information

Hamégicourt is a village and commune 13 kilometres south-south-east of St. Quentin and 3 kilometres east of the main road (N. 44) from St. Quentin to La Fere. In the churchyard, about 6 yards north of the southern boundary, are the graves of five airmen belonging to the Royal Air Force.

Aircraft: Whitley, Mk V, serial N1380
Target: Ribemont, France
Incident: Aircraft crashed near Hamégicourt. There were no survivors


Burial Details


580865 Sergeant Duncan Henry James Barrett, Observer in 102 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 20th May 1940. Son of 
Walter Henry and Annie Adela Mary Barrett of Holt, Norfolk. his headstone bears the inscription "He Sang! I Will Not Cease From Mental Fight Till We Have Built Jerusalem"

631053 Aircraftman 2nd Class Michael David Dolan, Wireless Operator in 102 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 20th May 1940, aged 19. Son of Catherine Dolan, of Liverpool. His headstone bears the inscription "Only A Boy But He Played A Man's Part"

41703 Pilot Officer Dennis Frederick Stanford, Pilot in 102 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 20th May 1940, aged 20.
Son of Frederick Charles and Elizabeth Holbrook.


549885 Leading Aircraftman Reginald John Newberry, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in 102 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 20th May 1940, aged 20. Son of Cecil Jack and Dorothy Victoria Newberry, of Hull. his headstone bears the inscription "Thy Memory Be As A Dwelling Place For All Sweet Sounds And Harmonies"

39332 Flight Lieutenant David William Hew Owen, Pilot in 102 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 20th May 1940, aged 22.
Son of Alfred George Lewys Owen and Gwenllian Helena Owen, of Pinkney's Green, Berkshire. His headstone bears the inscription "Who, With His Father And Brother Gave His Life For The Peace Of The World" 
His brother, Robin James Owen, also died on service and is buried in Maidenhead Cemetery.
