GEMEAUX COMMUNAL CEMETERY

Location Information

Gemeaux is a village and commune 20 kilometres north-north-east of Dijon. The communal cemetery is on the eastern side of the village, west of the road from Langres to Dijon. The grave of one British airman is to the left of the entrance, near the far wall.


Flight Details:
 
Base: R.A.F. Lakenheath, Suffolk
Unit: 199 Sqdn. Bomber Command
Aircraft: Stirling Mk III, serial EE957
Target: Special Operations
Incident: Crashed near Gemeaux, one burial here and two others at Is-sur-Tille. Pilot Officer R. B. Charteris, D.F.M. escaped but the following were taken prisoner:
Sgt. G. W. Green, Flight Sgt. D. A. Chisholm and Pilot Officer A. P. Chisholm



Burial  Details

136897 Flying Officer Edward George Brown, Air Bomber in 199 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th March 1944, aged 21. Son of William George and Lilian Brown, of North Harrow, Middlesex. His headstone bears the inscription "In Loving Memory Of Our Dear Son Ted"
