DIJON (LES PEJOCES) COMMUNAL CEMETERY

Location Information

Dijon (Les Pejoces) Communal Cemetery can be found on the outskirts of Dijon, on the left hand side of the N5 road in the direction of Dole.

On entering the cemetery, turn immediately right and follow the boundary wall. The Commonwealth war graves will be found among the French military graves.

Historical Information
​

The cemetery was used, and extended, by American troops. Four of the War graves were brought from the American plots and from Allery American Cemetery (Saone-et-Loire).

Total Burials: 9. 

World War One Commonwealth Casualties: United Kingdom 6, Australia 1, New Zealand 1. Total 8.

World War One Burial Details

11335 Rifleman W. Hadley, 2nd Bn. King's Royal Rifle Corps, died 2nd January 1919.

Second Lieutenant Arthur Hinder, 97th Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 16th September 1918, aged 22. 
Son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Hinder, of Oldbury, Worcs. His headstone bears the inscription "Thy Purpose Lord We Cannot See But All Is Well That Is Done By Thee"

44235 Bombardier Harold Milner, "B" Battery, 114th Brigade, 
Royal Field Artillery, died 21st November 1915, aged 20.
Son of Arthur and Julia Milner, of Sunderland St., Tickhill, Rotherham. His headstone bears the inscription "Safe In The Arms Of Jesus"

69005 Private William Maule Norcott, 1st/4th Bn. 
Northumberland Fusiliers, died 4th June 1918, aged 18. Son of Mrs. S. E. Swain (formerly Norcott), of 4, Cherry Holt Lane, Newark and the late William M. Norcott. His headstone bears the inscription "The Sweetest Of Memories Are All That Are Left Of One So Dear"

15455 Private Fred Painter, 9th Bn. 
Gloucestershire Regiment, died 12th November 1915.

84721 Private 1st Class J. C. Williams, 
No. 1 Aircraft Depot, Royal Air Force, died 30th August 1918, aged 24.

72992 Squadron Leader Anthony Eustace Hill, D. S. O. & D. F. C. & Bar, 543 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 12th November 1942, aged 28.
 Son of Colonel Eustace Hill, D.S.O., T.D., D.L., M.F.H. and of Barbara Hill (nee Gribble), of Ashwell, Hertfordshire. His headstone bears the inscription "He That Loseth His Life For My Sake Shall Find It"​
