CORNIMONT COMMUNAL CEMETERY

Location Information

Cornimont is a village and commune 24 miles (38 kilometres) south-east of Epinal, and 12 miles (19 kilometres) south-east of the small town of Remiremont. The village is on the main road to Gerardmer, and is the terminus of the branch line which connects with the main Paris-Nancy-Epinal railway line. The communal cemetery lies on the southern side of the village, near the church on the road to Le Thillot. The graves of two British and one Canadian airmen are in front of the French monument.


Burial Details


145378 Flying Officer John Rothwell Lindley, Navigator in 196 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 5th February 1944, aged 32. Son of William Sherlock Lindley, and of Ethel Maud Lindley, of Mortlake, Surrey. B.Sc.
INSCRIPTION. A MAN WELL LOVED.


150068 Flying Officer Thomas Moore, Pilot in 196 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 5th February 1944, aged 22. Son of Percy and Mary Hannah Moore, of Keighley, Yorkshire. INSCRIPTION. THESE LAID THE WORLD AWAY; POURED OUT THE RED SWEET WINE OF YOUTH".

R/149450 Warrant Officer Class II Lionel Howard Woodruff, Air Bomber in 196 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, died 5th February 1944, aged 21. Son of Howard R. Woodruff and Ethel H. R. Woodruff, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
INSCRIPTION. LEFT FOR HIS HEAVENLY HOME. SADLY MISSED BY LOVING PARENTS AND BROTHERS.
