Location Information

The village of Bréville is 12 kilometres north-east of Caen and 5 kilometres south of the seaside resort of Merville-Franceville-Plage. The Communal Cemetery surrounds the ruins of the former church. There are 2 Commonwealth burials of the 1939-1945 war, in the southern part of the Cemetery; one near the southern boundary wall and the other near the south wall of the ruined church.


Burial Details

5511915 Private Charles John Bertram Masters, 12th (10th Bn. The Green Howards [Yorkshire Regt.]) Bn. The Parachute Regiment, A.A.C, died 12th June 1944, aged 21. Son of Harry Burt Masters and Constance Emily Masters, of Ilchester, Somerset.

204182 Captain Hugh William Ward, 53 (The Worcestershire Yeomanry) Airlanding Lt. Regt. Royal Artillery, died 12th June 1944, aged 34. Son of Alfred and Annie E. Ward, of Sandy, Bedfordshire; husband of Joan Elizabeth Franks Ward, of Bedford. His headstone bears the inscription "Beloved Son Of Alfred And Annie Ward, Darling Husband Of Joanna, Father Of John"
