AMANCE COMMUNAL CEMETERY

Location Information

Amance is a village and commune 21 miles (33 kilometres) east of Troyes, and 5 miles (8 kilometres) north-north-east of Vendeuvre-sur-Barse. 

The cemetery lies on the western side of the village on a local road leading west off the road to the neighbouring hamlet of La Ville-aux-Bois.



Historical Information

In the south-east part are the graves of three British airmen.


Burial Details

1207423 Flight Sergeant Frederick Victor Brook, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in 156 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 22nd November 1942, aged 28. Son of Arthur Henry and Elizabeth Brook, of Stoke-on-Trent. His headstone bears the inscription "Rest Eternal Grant Him, After Gallant Fight. Loved By Brother And Sisters"

49694 Flight Lieutenant Edward Albert Fletcher, Pilot in 156 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 22nd November 1942, aged 29. Son of George and Florence Eliza Fletcher; husband of Elizabeth Fletcher, of Rotherham, Yorkshire. His headstone bears the inscription "At The Going Down Of The Sun And In The Morning We Will Remember Him"

51289 Pilot Officer George John Grayland, Air Gunner in 156 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 22nd November 1942, aged 26. Son of George and Christine Grayland; husband of Ruby Eileen Grayland, of Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire. His headstone bears the inscription "Truly An English Gentleman. Father Of Annie R. I. P."
