ZWARTEWAAL GENERAL CEMETERY
Zuid-Holland
The Netherlands

Location Information

Zwartewaal is a small village and commune lying 24 kilometres west-south-west of Rotterdam and 38 kilometres south of The Hague. The cemetery is about 800 metres south-west of the village, on the eastern side of the road to Nieuwland. The war graves lie in a prominent position in the centre.

14259909 Gunner Harold Browes, 126 (9th Bn. The Middlesex Regiment.) Lt. A. A. Regiment, Royal Artillery, died 20th May 1945, aged 27. Son of Ernest and Sarah Browes; husband of Maggie Browes, of Whittington Moor, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

14651007 Gunner Stanley Herbert James, 126 (9th Bn. The Middlesex Regiment.) Lt. A. A. Regiment, Royal Artillery, died 20th May 1945, aged 24.  Son of George and Ellen Groombridge; husband of Phyllis Beatrice Groombridge, of Wallington, Surrey.

14247784 Gunner Percy Lowman, 126 (9th Bn. The Middlesex Regiment.) Lt. A. A. Regiment, Royal Artillery, died 20th May 1945, aged 21. Son of William and Ellen Lowman, of Kingswood, Bristol.

K/12078 Lance Sergeant Henry Martin Monk, 7 Battery, 2 Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, died 20th May 1945, aged 29. Son of Henry and Bertha Monk; husband of Marjorie Monk, of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

14268701 Gunner Leonard Sydney George Wheeler, 126 (9th Bn. The Middlesex Regiment.) Lt. A. A. Regiment, Royal Artillery, died 20th May 1945, aged 21. Son of Sydney Percival and Alice Maud Wheeler, of Welling, Kent.

25062 Flight Lieutenant Ivor Chudleigh Bethune Worthington-Wilmer, Pilot in 18 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 4th July 1940, aged 29. Son of Lt.-Col. Louis Emilius Chudleigh Worthington-Wilmer and Olive Armitage Worthington-Wilmer, of Gerrans, Cornwall.
