Location Information

Vivières is a village and commune 20 kilometres south-west of Soissons and 6 kilometres north of Villers-Cotterêts, a small town on the Paris-Soissons road. The Communal Cemetery is south-east of the village on the road to the neighbouring village of Soucy.


History Information

In the cemetery, 15 yards north-east of the stone Calvary which stands in the main path, are the graves of nine airmen Eight of them belonged to the Royal Air Force and one to the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Unit. 90 Sqdn. Bomber Command
Aircraft: Stirland, Mk III, serial WP-B
Target: Laon, in the Department of the Aisne, France
Incident: Crashed near Mortefontaine (Aisne) There were no survivors.

Base: R.A.F. Woolfox Lodge, Leicestershire
Unit: 218 Sqdn. Bomber Command
Aircraft: Stirling Mk III, serial HA-M
Target: Laon, in the Department of the Aisne, France
Incident: Aircraft crashed near Hautefontaine (Oise)
Fl. Sgt. H. Bossick, Flying Officer H. D. Thomas, W.O. 2nd Class J. McPhee, Pilot Officer H. H. J. Fisher and Fl. Sgt. L. N. Cary escaped capture.
