Vendin-le-Vieil is a village and commune 22 kilometres north-north-east of Arras and 6 kilometres north-north-east of Lens, a town on the N.25 road from Arras to Lille. The communal cemetery is some 183 metres south of the church, on a by-road leading to the colliery south-east of the village. In the south-eastern part is a circular plot surrounded by small trees. The British grave is near, and north of, this plot.
