TANSLEY (HOLY TRINITY) CHURCHYARD

Location Information

Tansley is a small Derbyshire village, situated 1.5 miles east of Matlock. The churchyard contains 3 graves of the Great War and 6 of the 1939-1945 War:
 
WW1 burials

Pte. Charles Edward BOOTH. 38955. 208th Protection Coy. Royal Defence Corps. 9th May 1918, aged 29. Son of Abraham Booth of Nottingham Road, Tansley, and the late Sarah Booth. Grave is north of the church

Cpl. H. TWIGG. 30468. 11th Bn. East Yorkshire Regt. 14th Feb. 1919. Grave near north-west corner of the churchyard

Pte. J. WHITE. 30498. 16th Bn. Sherwood Foresters, transferred to 100th Coy. Labour Corps (651700) 13 Nov. 1918, aged 20. Son of Obadiah & Sarah Ann White of Rock Terrace, Tansley. Grave near north-west corner of the churchyard

Pte. Herbert BALLINGTON. 4915999. 1/6th Bn. South Staffordshire Regt. 28th Aug. 1941, aged 23. Son of Herbert and Sarah Jane Ballington of Matlock Bath. Grave location not recorded at this time

Sgt. Leslie James CALDWELL. 1166513. 158 Sqdn. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. 10th March 1942, aged 22. Son of the Revd. George Caldwell & Nellie Caldwell of Tansley Rectory. Grave 6185

Gunner Thomas FEATHERSTONE. 976935. 546 Coast Regt., Royal Artillery. 26th April 1943, aged 23. Son of Joseph & Charlotte Featherstone of Matlock. Grave location not recorded at this time

Sapper George Bernard MOORE. 2139169. Royal Engineers. 4th April 1941, aged 27. Son of John & Alice Moore; husband of Olive Moore of Matlock. Grave location not recorded at this time

Pte. Kathleen Mavis SPENCER. W/94842. Auxiliary Territorial Service. 14th Aug. 1944, aged 20. Daughter of Simeon & Edith Ann Spencer of Tansley. Grave location not recorded at this time

Driver George Thomas WIBBERLEY. 10592038. Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers. 24th March 1945, aged 32. Son of John William & Sophia Elizabeth Wibberley of Matlock; husband of Doris Wibberley, also of Matlock. Grave location not recorded at this time
