Location Information

Blackwell is a small village in Derbyshire, situated three miles north-west of Alfreton. In the churchyard are the graves of four soldiers who died in the Great War and two in the 1939-1945 War

Able Seaman Frederick Stanley PEARCE. Tyneside Z/4465. Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve. H.M.S. "Vivid" 1st Aug. 1918. Son of George & Elizabeth Pearce of The Green, Newton, Alfreton, Derbyshire. Grave C.16

L/Cpl. Conelius PITT. 17963. 11th Bn. Sherwood Foresters. 3rd May 1917, aged 27. Son of William Pitt; husband of Mary Jane Pitt of Sherwood Street, Newton, Alfreton, Derbyshire. Grave A.12

Lt. Commander W. A. C. SALMOND. Royal Navy. H.M.S. "Whirlwind" 20th March 1921, aged 30. Son of Walter & Mary A. Salmond of Old Hall, Alfreton. Grave C.A.1

Sgt. F. W. SMITH. 575839. Royal Air Force. 28th Nov. 1943, aged 21. Son of Thomas & Ethel Smith of Newton.  Grave reference not recorded
