Location Information
St. Crépin is a village and commune some 16 miles (25 kilometres) east of Rochefort, the nearest convenient centre. From Rochefort travellers by car take the road to Tonnay-Boutonne, then turn north for 3 miles (5 kilometres) along the road to Surgères. The communal cemetery lies to the north of the village. There is 1 Commonwealth burial of the 1939-1945 war here, to the right of the stone cross in the centre of the cemetery, marked by a private memorial.
Historical Information
The seven crew members took off in their Lancaster LM269 at 15:42 on 18th August 1944 to attack the oil storage tanks. Hit by Flak and commenced breaking up debris falling at St-Crépin (Charente- Maritime) 25 km E of Rochefort.
Two of the crew members were killed, Flight Sergeant Ronald William Bishop who is buried in this cemetery and Pilot Officer Gordon Alan Bullock who is buried in Muron Communal Cemetery. The other five crew members evaded capture.

1334892 Flight Sergeant Ronald William Bishop, Air Bomber in 630 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 18th August 1944, aged 22. Son of William James Bishop and Alice Elizabeth Bishop, of Brighton, Sussex.
