Oporto, a seaport and the second largest city in Portugal, is on the northern bank of the river Douro. Oporto (St.James) British Churchyard is situated beside St. James Church, near the Júlio Dinis maternity hospital and the Gardens of the Cristal Palace.

The churchyard of the British church of St. James, Largo Maternidade Julio Diniz contains the graves of 11 Commonwealth airmen from three aircraft which crashed near Oporto at different times during the Second World War.
