PETITMONT COMMUNAL CEMETERY

Location Information

Petitmont is a village and commune 60 kilometres east-south-east of Nancy and about 10 kilometres south-east of the main road from Nancy to Sarrebourg. The communal cemetery is on the northern side of the village, and is north of the church in a minor road leading to Cirey-sur-Vezouze. In the south-eastern corner are the graves of three airmen, two of them belonged to the Royal Air Force and one to the Royal Canadian Air Force.


Burial Details


1813417 Sergeant Percy William Buckley, Air Gunner in 622 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 29th July 1944, aged 18. Son of Percy and Ruth Buckley; husband of Jeannie Buckley, of Bow, London. INSCRIPTION. PRAY FOR MY SOUL, FOR MORE THINGS ARE WROUGHT BY PRAYER THAN THIS WORLD DREAMS OF.

1547679 Sergeant Arthur Payton, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in 622 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer reserve, died 29th July 1944, aged 30. Son of George and Harriet Payton; husband of Elizabeth Payton, of Connah's Quay, Flintshire.
INSCRIPTION. HIS STEP UNTRACED: WE ONLY KNOW AND SEEN HIS FATHER'S FACE AND SEEN HIS FATHER'S FACE.

R/220221 Flight Sergeant Richard Godfrey Proulx, Air Gunner in 622 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, died 29th July 1944, aged 21. Son of Godfrey and Mry Ellen Proulx, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. INSCRIPTION. MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE.
