MAROLLES-SUR-SEINE COMMUNAL CEMETERY
Seine-et-Marne
France

Location Information

Marolles-sur-Seine is a village in the Department of the Seine-et-Marne, 8 kilometres east of Montereau-Fault-Yonne. The communal cemetery is on the Route de Bray, on the eastern side of the village on the D441 road to La Tombe. Near the south wall are 7 Commonwealth aircrew burials of the 1939-1945 War. They all served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and died on the 10th Dec. 1942.


Flight Details:

Base: R.A.F. Waddington, Lincolnshire
Unit: 9 Sqdn. Bomber Command
Aircraft: Lancaster Mk I, serial W4764
Target: Munition works at Turin, Northern Italy
Incident: The aircraft crashed at Marolles-sur-Seine. There were no survivors.



Burial Details:
 
934740 Sergeant Leslie Frederick Walter Jones, Flight Engineer in 9 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 10th December 1942, aged 31. Son of Frederick and Mary Jones of Canton, Cardiff; husband of Elvira Jones.

R/85622 Warrant Officer Lawrence Henry Jordan, Pilot in 9 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, died 10th December 1942.

798629 Sergeant Kevin Fenton Neville, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in 9 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 10th December 1942, aged 24. Son of John and Mary Neville of Corner Brook, Newfoundland.

1376133 Sergeant Eric Charles Percy Newton, Navigator in 9 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 10th December 1942, aged 29. Son of Albert Percy and May Alice Newton; husband of Betty Marie Newton of Barnstaple, Devon.

1394994 Sergeant Walter Maurice Rimscha, Air Gunner in 9 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 10th December 1942.

1333376 Sergeant Allan William Albert Robinson, Navigator in 9 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 10th December 1942, aged 20. Son of Albert and Rose Garth Robinson of Shirley, Croydon, Surrey.

1215483 Sergeant Henry John Warburton, Air Gunner in 9 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 10th December 1942, aged 19. Son of Henry and Frances Margaret Warburton of Burton-on-Trent.
