Location Information

Marigny-en-Orxois is a village 15 kilometres west of Château-Thierry and 4 kilometres north of Montreuil-aux-Lions, a village on the N.3 road from Paris to Château-Thierry. Marigny-en-Orxois Communal cemetery is north-east of the village. The four British graves are near the northern corner.


Burial Details


1602267 Flight Sergeant George William Evans, Air Bomber in 50 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 23. Son of Richard and Edith Evans, of North End, Portsmouth. His headstone bears the inscription "We Will Remember Him"

1199702 Flight Sergeant Fred Glover, Wireless Operator in 50 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 22. Son of William and Florence Glover, of Bulwell, Nottinghamshire; husband of Kathleen Ada Glover, of Bulwell. His headstone bears the inscription "He Gave The Greatest Gift Of All, His Own Unfinished Life" 

1576617 Sergeant Ronald Russell, Air Gunner in 50 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 23. Son of Arthur and Ellen Russell, of Northampton. His headstone bears the inscription "To Fight For Freedom Was His Aim; His Sacrifice Was Not In Vain. R. I. P."

1819375 Sergeant John William Shaw, Air Gunner in 50 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 19. Son of William and Ada Shaw, of Leicester. His headstone bears the inscription "De Votre Charite Priez Pour Le ReposDe Son Ame. Jeusus Have Mercy On Him R. I. P."
