Location Information

Maizy is a commune 34 kilometres east of Soissons. The churchyard is on the right hand side near the top of a hill. The seven Commonwealth burials are located in the rear of the churchyard.

Aircraft: Lancaster Mk III, serial ND592
Target: Laon (Aisne) France
Incident: Aircraft crashed and exploded at Maizy. There were no survivors

54222 Pilot Officer Percy Ronald Aslett, Pilot in 7 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 23rd April 1944.

1765035 Flight Sergeant James Wilfred Bott, Flight Engineer in 7 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 23rd April 1944, aged 22. Son of Frederick and Elsie Bott; husband of Lucy Bott of Coppull, Lancashire. His headstone bears the inscription "Hath No Man Than This, That A Man Lay Down His Life For His Friends" 

172104 Pilot Officer Hugh Boys Cooper, Navigator in  Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 23rd April 1944.

1545049 Flight Sergeant Thomas Horton, Air Bomber in Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 23rd April 1944, aged 21. Son of Thomas and Nellie Horton of Chorlton, Manchester. His headstone bears the inscription "Worthy Of Everlasting Remembrance"

2216043 Sergeant Francis William Ingham, Air Gunner in 7 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 23rd April 1944, aged 20. Son of William Albert and Mary Christina Ingham of New Longton, Lancashire.

171457 Pilot Officer Leon Francis George Noakes, D. F. C. Air Gunner in 7 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 23rd April 1944, aged 25. Son of Reginald George and Ellen Mary Noakes (née Yaldren); husband of Emily Noakes of Rustington, Sussex. His headstone bears the inscription "A True Patriot. He died For England St. George's Day"


1382694 Flight Sergeant Laurence Alfred Scott, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in 7 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 23rd April 1944.
