Liège Citadel is located to the North of the city and the cemetery is within the grounds.
Historical Information
The Citadel contains a small cemetery located in the park which has 415 graves of people shot by the Wehrmacht or the Waffen-SS during the Second World War as well as that of the chaplain of the citadel from Liège, Mathieu Voncken.
The enclosure and its cemetery are part of the remains of the bastion Saint-François of the old citadel.
The entrance to the site is through the cemetery which contains 416 burials with crosses but only 98 people, not including chaplain Voncken, remain buried with the other bodies having been returned to their families. Close to the cemetery is the location of the execution posts.
