LES SABLES-D'OLONNE (LA FOIRE-AUX-CHATS) NEW COMMUNAL CEMETERY

Location Information

Les Sables-d'Olonne is a seaside resort 63 miles (100 kilometres) north of La Rochelle and 56 miles (90 kilometres) south of Nantes. The new communal cemetery (La Foire-aux-Chats) is on the north-east side of the village, on the Rue du Docteur Laennec. There are 4 Commonwealth burials of the 1939-1945 war here, 1 of which is unidentified, to the right of the main path from the entrance.

1913351 Sapper Lawrence William Bird, 663 Artisan Works Company, Royal Engineers, died 17th June 1940, aged 31.
Son of William Wallace Bird and Elizabeth Grace Bird, of Uxbridge, Middlesex; husband of Edith Mary Bird.

INSCRIPTION. DEATH'S BUT A LITTLE THING COMPARED WITH LOVE!,

6466503 Private Patrick Anthony Brady, 2nd Bn. The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment), died between 10th May 1940 and 23rd June 1940, aged 22. Son of John and Annie Brady; husband of Joan Brady, of Paddington, London. INSCRIPTION. IN MEMORY OF PATRICK DEVOTED HUSBAND OF JOAN AND DADDY OF TONY AND ALLAN R.I.P.

1263757 Sergeant Charles Henry Durrant, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in 12 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 20th July 1942.
