LE VAUDOUÉ COMMUNAL CEMETERY
Seine-et-Marne

Location Information

Le Vaudoué is a village and commune in the Department of the Seine-et-Marne, 23 kilometres north-west of Nemours and 20 kilometres west-south-west of Fontainebleau. From the centre of Le Vaudoué, take the Rue du Palais, continue for some 360 metres and turn right into a lane leading to the communal cemetery. Midway between the west and north corners of the cemetery are the graves of 6 airmen belonging to the Royal Air Force and 1 to the Royal Canadian Air Force who died on the 4th May 1944

R/195667 Flight Sergeant James Kenneth Morey, Air Gunner in 57 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, died 4th May 1944, aged 22. Son of Mr. & Mrs. Francis Emerson Morey of Hartington, Ontario, Canada

1801045 Sergeant George Henry Norton, Flight Engineer in 57 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 21. Son of George and Margaret Gertrude Louisa Norton of Ipswich, Suffolk

1487387 Flight Sergeant Henry Mitchell Peckett, Air Bomber in 57 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 20. Son of Frank Hedley and Dorothy Helen Peckett of Brockholes, Yorkshire

160001 Flying Officer Rendal Anthony Fenwick Scrivener, Pilot in 57 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 20. Son of William John and Nora Mary Skrimshire Scrivener of Kitwe, Northern Rhodesia

1373660 Sergeant Frederick Charles Searle, Radio Operator in 57 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 21. Son of Charles A. and Ruth Searle of Knightswood, Glasgow

137169 Flying Officer Norman Alfred Smith, Navigator in 57 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th May 1944, aged 26. Son of Alfred George and Maud Smith; husband of Alice Mary Smith of Paisley, Renfrewshire


Flight Details:

Base: R.A.F. East Kirkby, Lincolnshire
Unit: 57 Sqdn. Bomber Command
Aircraft: Lancaster Mk III, serial ND468
Target: Mailly-le-Camp, Aube, France
Incident: The aircraft crashed at Le Vaudoué. There were no survivors.
