LE CONQUET COMMUNAL CEMETERY

Location Information

Le Conquet is a coastal village and commune about 21 kilometres west of Brest. It is best reached by taxi from Brest. The communal cemetery is south-east of the village almost at the end of the road to Lochrist. It is on the left as you enter Lochrist. Near the rear, south of the chapel and opposite the entrance, are the graves of three airmen of the Royal Air Force and one belonging to the Royal Canadian Air Force.

J/17237 Pilot Officer Albert Morgan Long, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in Royal Canadian Air Force, died 6th July 1943, aged 24. Son of Albert James Long and Miriam Long, of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada. INSCRIPTION. AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER HIM.

26062 Wing Commander John Jervis Owen, Mentioned in Despatches, Pilot in 466 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 6th July 1943, aged 35. Son of John Alexander Owen and of Dora Sophia Owen (nee Jervis); husband of Rosemary Valerie Owen, of Feniton, Devon. INSCRIPTION. IN THY KEEPING"

145801 Pilot Officer John Frederick (Johnny) Ray, Air Gunner in 466 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 6th July 1943, aged 22. Son of Samuel and Daisy Florence Ray, of Brockley, London. INSCRIPTION. TO THE SACRED MEMORY OF MY BELOVED SON JOHNNY. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN. R.I.P. MUM.

119477 Flying Officer Egbert Horace Swain, Navigator in 466 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 6th July 1943, aged 32. Son of Walter Egbert and Gladys Isabel Swain, of Walthamstow, Essex. F.C.I.S., Certified Accountant.
INSCRIPTION. IN DEAR INSPIRING MEMORY OF A BELOVED SON AND BROTHER, SERVANT OF CHRIST.
