HÔPITAL-CAMFROUT COMMUNAL CEMETERY

Location Information

Hôpital-Camfrout is a village and commune 38 kilometres north-north-west of Quimper and 4 kilometres south-south-east of Daoulas, on the Quimper-Chateaulin road. The nearest railway station is at Daoulas on a branch line from Quimper. There is a reasonable train service and a taxi completes the journey. The communal cemetery is on the south-eastern outskirts of the village on the western side of the road to Le Faou. In the eastern corner, far right of the entrance, is the collective grave of four airmen of the Royal Air Force.

78459 Pilot Officer George Henry Brooks, Observer in 217 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 7th December 1940, aged 20. Son of Cecil Henry and Edith Maud Brooks, of Horsham, Sussex; husband of Sylvia Brooks.
INSCRIPTION. LES BIEN-AIMES DE DIEU MEURENT JEUNES.

527729 Sergeant Thomas John George Eede, Air Gunner in 217 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 7th December 1940, aged 33. Son of John George and Dorothy Eede, of Laira, Plymouth; husband of Winifred Edith Eede. INSCRIPTION. A BRIGHT YOUNG LIFE A NOBLE DEATH AND FOR A NOBLE CAUSE.

41198 Flying Officer Hugh Eric Mussenden, Pilot in 217 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 7th December 1940, aged 23. Son of Nathaniel and Louise Mussenden; husband of Joyce Margaret Mussenden, of Maida Hill, London. INSCRIPTION. BORN FOR THE FUTURE TO THE FUTURE LOST.

627713 Sergeant John William Pratt, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in 217 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 7th December 1940, aged 20. Son of Robert and Jane Pratt, of Grange town, Yorkshire. INSCRIPTION. IN LOVING MEMORY OF BILLY. IN OUR HEARTS HE WILL ALWAYS REMAIN. MAM, DAD AND ALL.
