MUNSTER HEATH WAR CEMETERY

Location Information

The city of Munster lies in the west of Germany approx 70kms to the north of Dortmund. 

Munster Heath War Cemetery is located inside the civilian cemetery Waldfriedhof Lauheide. 
From the A1 Koln to Bremen motorway take exit 78 (Ausfahrt 78) MUNSTER- SUD and follow the signs for B51 TELGTE. Continue for approx 12kms and then turn left onto the B51/WARENDORFERSTRASSE direction TELGTE. 
Continue for approx 4kms and turn left (CWGC sign) onto the LAUHEIDERSTRASSE. Continue for approx 2.5kms and the main entrance to the Waldfriedhof Lauheide is directly in front of you. 
Continue along the main path for approx 500m and turn right at the small CWGC Signpost. 
Continue for approx 200m and the cemetery is on the left. 

Visitors should note that vehicle access is not permitted in the Waldfriedhof and Munster Heath War Cemetery is a 15 minute walk from the main cemetery entrance.

Visiting Information

Visitors should note that vehicle access is not permitted in the Waldfriedhof and Munster Heath War Cemetery is a 15 minute walk from the main cemetery entrance. 

Wheelchair access is possible via the main entrance. 


Historical Information

Munster Heath was on the line of the Alllied advance across northern Germany in 1945 but the majority of those buried in the cemetery died while serving with the Army of Occupation after the German surrender.

Munster Heath Cemetery contains 589 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War. There are also 277 post war graves.
