Location Information


Genouilly is a village and commune 40 kilometres north-west of Bourges, and 14 kilometres south-west of the town of Vierzon. The communal cemetery is situated on the road leading north-wards from Genouilly to the neighbouring village of Moray. 


Historical Information

There are 7 Commonwealth burials of the 1939-1945 war here, west of the entrance.

Casualties: United Kingdom 6, Canada 1. Total 7.

Eight crew members were killed when their Lancaster III. ND 459 crashed at Genouilly on the 1st July 1944. The plane took off from Kelstern at 2220 to bomb the railway yards. Seven crew members are buried here and Pilot Richard Davison is buried at La Ferté-St. Cyr Communal Cemetery

All of the following were U. K. Airmen from 625 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who were killed on 1st July 1944.
1399276 Sergeant John Thomas Ash, aged 21.  Son of Edward and Mary Ann Ash, of Deptford, London; husband of Audrey Alice Ash, of Deptford. His headstone bears the inscription "In Memory Of My Husband John "Doomed To Know Not Winter Only Spring" Audrey

​1624095 Sergeant Kenneth Gordon Barnett, aged 20. Son of John Thomas Barnett and Elizabeth Barnett, of Holbeaeh, Lincolnshire. His headstone bears the inscription "A Silent Thought And Secret Tear Keeps His Memory Ever Dear"

​1585302 Sergeant Leonard Charles B. Ekers, aged 20. Son of Leonard and Florence Lillian Jessie Ekers, of East Sheen, Surrey. His headstone bears the inscription "God Keep You, Len. You Fought For His Kingdom"


​1581986 Sergeant Richard Peter Gatensbury, aged 20. Son of Frederick George and Elsie Gatensbury, of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. His headstone bears the inscription "O Valiant Hearts"

1582825 Sergeant Frank Meade, aged 22, 
Son of Edward and Ada Meade, of Barnsley, Yorkshire. His headstone bears the inscription "Dearer Still As The Years Depart His Memory Lives Within Our Hearts"

159508 Flying Officer Eric Wright, aged 25. 
Son of Cecil Walter and Ivy Gwendolyn Wright, of York. N.D.A., L.D.A. His headstone bears the inscription "He Is Not Dead, He Doth Not Sleep-He Hath Awakened From The Dream Of Life"
