Location Information

The village of Fricourt is approximately 5 kilometres east of Albert and the Communcal Cemetery is on the south-western side of the village.


Historical Information

Near the middle of the southern boundary are the graves of three airmen of the Royal Air Force.


Burial Details

33300 Flying Officer Francis Derek Bird, Pilot in 59 Squadron, Royal Air force, died 22nd May 1940, aged 23. Son of John Bowyer Bird and Elizabeth Mary Bird, of Buttevant, Co. Cork, Irish Republic. Winner of 440 yards and equal first in the Long Jump: Inter-Services Athletic Meeting, 1937.

563306 Sergeant Charles John Westley Brinn, Observer in 59 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 22nd May 1940.

618330 Leading Aircraftman 2nd Class Gordon Desmond Coles, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner in 59 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 22nd May 1940, aged 20. Son of Miles and Dorothy Coles, of Hampstead, London. His brother Miles George also died on service and is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial
