​Location Information

Floing is a small village in the Ardennes region of France, some 15 kilometres south-east of Charleville-Mezières. The village is located on the D5 road and is just north of Sedan.  

The communal cemetery is on the south-east side of the road to Illy (D205) on the outskirts of the village, and the graves of three airmen of the Royal Air Force are near the south-east corner of the cemetery.


Burial Details

41679 Pilot Officer Kenneth Mitchell Alves De Souza, Pilot in 139 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 16th May 1940.

625295 Leading Aircraftman 2nd Class William John McCarthy, Wireless Operator in 139 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 16th May 1940, aged 23. Son of William and Annie McCarthy, of Belfast, Northern Ireland. His headstone bears the inscription "The Lamb Which Is In The Midst Of The Throne Shall Be Their Shepherd"

581008 Sergeant Edmund Winchester Tough, Observer in 139 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 16th May 1940, aged 23. Son of John and Annabella Jack Tough, of Govan, Glasgow. His headstone bears the inscription "At The Going Down Of The Sun and In The Morning We Will Remember Him"
