FESTUBERT COMMUNAL CEMETERY

Location Information

Festubert is a village 8 kilometres east-north-east of Bethune on the D72. The Communal Cemetery is 500 metres west of the village church on the D72. The war graves will be found 20 metres from the main entrance, slightly to the left.

History Information

There are 12, 1939-45 war casualties commemorated in this site. Of these, 6, are unidentified.


Burial Details


2981043 Private Andrew Anderson, 6th Bn. Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, died 28th May 1940, aged 27. Son of Andrew M. and Helen Hadden Anderson, of Johnstone, Renfrewshire.

3446112 Drummer Joseph Ashurst, 1/8th Bn. Lancashire Fusiliers, died 25th May 1940, aged 24. Husband of Winnifred Ashurst, of Eccles, Lancashire.

5726297 Private Pierce Gray, 2nd Bn. Dorsetshire Regiment, died 25th May 1940, aged 22. Son of James and Mary Anne Gray, of Waterford, Irish Republic.

5727283 Private Alfred John Hare, 2nd Bn. Dorsetshire Regiment, died 31st May 1940. Son of Mrs. D. E. Hare, of Burnt Oak, Middlesex.

2982553 Private John McCluskie, 6th Bn. Argyll and Sutherland Fusiliers, died 28th May 1940, aged 26. Son of John and Margaret McLuskie; husband of Elizabeth McLuskie, of Johnstone, Renfrewshire.

5722469 Corporal Charles Ernest Pook, 2nd Bn. Dorsetshire Regiment, died 26th May 1940, aged 33. Son of Ernest and Elizabeth Ann Pook; husband of P. I. Pook, of Berkhampstead, Hertfordshire.
